In an effort to promote health and sports to the region, the Municipality of Miraflores in Lima Peru sought ways to rejuvenate two unused concrete sport slabs at Redondo Beach, in the beautiful Costa Verde area. The first sport slab being an official professional measurement, and the second slab being amateur measurement.
Team Laykold partner Menbel Sports, native to Peru, was quick to lend a hand in the effort, offering their installation services at no cost. APT – Advanced Polymer Technology, the manufacturer of Laykold acrylic court surfaces, also jumped in to assist on the project by donating all materials.
In fact, Laykold is no stranger to the area. More than 15 years ago, one of the courts at Canchas Municipales de tenis was surfaced with Laykold. Of all the courts in the park, the Laykold court is still performing as though it were a brand new surface, even after almost 20 years!
Now that the installation is complete, these colorful new Laykold sports courts can be seen from the popular Larcomar shopping mall, located on the hillside just above.
The Municipality of MiraFlores is thrilled with their new Laykold sport surfaces. During the inauguration at Redondo Beach, Mayor Jorge Munoz was quoted as saying, “The municipality is implementing different spaces through programs that promote physical activity, as well as a healthy lifestyle that contribute to the development of comprehensive health of people.”
Laykold is happy to have assisted the town of Miraflores in the first of many sports projects to promote a happy and healthy lifestyle for the people in the local community! Congratulations on your new Laykold sport surfaces!
APT and Laykold are proud to show off the new Laykold Dark Blue and Medium Green ColorCoat courts at the Biltmore Tennis Center, in Coral Gables FL. The courts were originally built by Team Laykold partner Agile Courts Construction Company back in the late 1970’s. The facility won the USTA court of the year for a public facility in 1981. Prior to this February 2016 resurfacing, the courts have only been resurfaced twice with Laykold. That’s an average of 12 years per surfacing! Laykold provides incredible results even in the demanding climate of south Florida.
The Mutitjulu Community can now enjoy multi-sports with the stunning view of Ayres Rock in the background.
500m2 of dual coloured Laykold surface has catapulted the extremely weathered bare asphalt tennis court at Uluru into the 21st Century. Thanks to NT Sports & Playground Surfacing, who installed the Mutitjulu Community with their new multi-sports court with line marking and equipment for basketball and tennis.
The original court was initially ground back and 2 coats of Laykold base coat was applied to fill the deep voids and cracks in the old, extremely weathered court. A layer of asphalt transformer was applied, followed by 2 additional coats of Laykold top coat.
Laykold’s hard wearing qualities, bright colours and reduced slip texture make it the perfect choice for the extreme environment of the Northern Territory outback.
Known for being one of the greatest tennis clubs in Perth, Mt Lawley has continued to be the club to play at by re-designing their hard-courts, and surfacing with the new Laykold Colorflex sports surface system installed by Westcoast Synthetic Surfacing.
This popular surface is ITF classified, slip-resistant, UV tolerant and has proven increased usage at the club. The 10 new Laykold courts compliment their 14 natural grass tennis courts.
Laykold tennis courts have just gotten greener! APT is proud to announce that their new Laykold Masters line now offers two systems made with recycled tennis balls. APT has teamed up with Ace Surfaces to create the very first cushion court with a shock pad that utilizes up to 10,000 recycled tennis balls in a single tennis court! Finally, after a tennis ball has had it’s last bounce, it can be recycled and used again instead of rolling into a landfill.
Each year, 130+ million tennis balls are consumed in the US and approximately 325 million worldwide. That is enough tennis balls thrown away annually to fill 6,000 semi trailers top to bottom or fill the Empire State Building to the 62nd story! After years of research, product development and teamwork, a recycling program finally exists.
The formula for success combines the reach, expertise and lead of reBounces and other partners such as HABU and Project Green Ball to collect, sort, clean and ship retired tennis balls. Ace Surfaces and Laykold Masters take the now ground up, recycled tennis balls and incorporate them into revolutionary cushion indoor/outdoor sports surfacing systems: Laykold Masters 5 and Laykold Masters 8.
We are excited to announce the first installation of the Tennis Ball Courts at Tenafly Racquet Club in Tenafly, NJ is going on now. “We are extremely excited about the new Ace Surface courts we are installing at the Tenafly Racquet Club. We love being the first tennis facility in the country with tennis courts that are partially made out of recycled tennis balls while being eco-friendly. Those that found hard courts to be difficult on their hips, knees and back will be pleasantly surprised by the difference the surface will have on their body. We hope to see other clubs in the country follow our lead in making the sport more enjoyable while helping the environment” said Gordon Uehling, Founder and Managing Director of Tenafly Racquet Club.
